What is The Great Escape 2012?

The Great Escape summer break is a chance for people with learning disabilities to take a holiday from the stresses of daily life in London. It’s all about fun, making friends, trying new activities and generally having time to kick back and relax in the hazy summer sunshine of the Buckinghamshire countryside.

When is it?

From 13-19 August 2012, the Camden Society will decamp to Woodrow High House, a beautiful, fully accessible country mansion just outside Amersham. Here people will be able to check into the beautiful house itself to stay for anything from one night to the full week, or bring a tent to camp in the luscious grounds.

Activities every day

We’ll run 2 or 3 activity sessions every morning and every afternoon for people to have a go at archery, fencing and survival-type outdoor courses in the surrounding woodland. Of course we’ll also offer favourites such as football, photography and arts activities too. And, with day trips to explore the local towns, villages and places of interest, we might also enjoy the odd pub lunch for good measure.

Everyone who comes to the Great Escape will cook and eat together, and based on our experiences last year, this will be a great time for people from our services across London and Oxfordshire to get to know one another – some fabulous friendships were made last year!
