Why is the money needed?

Good question.

With a whopping £19,000 to raise for The Great Escape 2012, here's 4 good reasons why we need the cash:

1. Many, many of the people with disabilities who we support each week have not had a break in years – a holiday is simply not affordable. Some people are also socially isolated, living alone and having few opportunities to meet new people, socialise and share good times. We all know how important it is to have social contact, a break from the usual routine and an opportunity to de-stress.

2. Benefits and services are being cut for people with disabilities. The opportunity to take a holiday has become even more difficult.

3. There are very few grants for holidays from charitable trusts and foundations. This means we have to get creative and work hard to fundraise so that we cover the costs of a holiday for 200 people!

4. While Great Escapees will contribute to their accommodation and food costs, it will be at a heavily subsidised rate. The Camden Society needs to raise the balance of these costs as well as funds for:

Session leaders to plan and run activity sessions
Transport costs
A Camp Co-ordinator for the week
Day trip costs
