Volunteer: Community in Action

Dates: Saturdays

Times: 1pm – 8pm

Location: Meet at 60 Holmes Road, NW5 3AQ

The Camden Society is currently looking for keen volunteers to get involved in our community based activities across London. Every Saturday we run a varied list of activities that our members can attend as they choose including: learning corner, a supper club, cookery groups, various afternoon activities like circus skills, Zumba, karaoke, bowling etc. Our base serves as venue for people to hang out, spend time with their friends and most importantly aims to help the health and wellbeing of adults with learning disabilities.  We are also running bigger day trips to places like Lego Land, Chessington, museums, exhibitions and galleries.

The Role

Our enthusiastic volunteers help members to feel welcome at the club, offering an ear and conversation; helping out with activities, sharing skills, motivating and encouraging member to feel empowered.  It can be varied and the level of your commitment/role is entirely up to you. We are currently looking for volunteers to get involved at every level and what you choose what you want to get involved in.

Commitment

Clubs run mainly on Saturdays from 1pm – 8pm. People volunteer through the whole or part of the session.

To help our volunteers settle in and not feel under too much pressure (you are giving us your free time!) we have three trial sessions.  If you are happy to continue after this then we do not ask for a weekly commitment of time, but do ask that you continue to volunteer with us for a minimum of six months. This ensures that our club members are able to build on good relationships over a period of time.

No previous experience is required and we provide training and support throughout.  Expenses for travel and lunch are paid if you get involved in one of our day trips.
