Cuts to DLA - Have your say by 14 February

Last day to tell the Government what you think about planned cuts

The Government has decided that they want to stop paying the DLA mobility component to people living in residential care. People use DLA mobility money to pay for things like electric wheelchairs and mobility aids.

If the Government takes this money away, people with disabilities will no longer have the freedom and independence to enjoy a life outside of their homes.

The Government will soon start debating the Welfare Reform Bill so we are encouraging all people with disabilities and their supporters to persuade MPs to vote against the decision that will see DLA cut.

Help to save DLA mobility component for people in residential care. The Camden Society is supporting Mencap's national campaign to fight this cut and we need your help too!

What can I do?

Ask the Government to change its mind. Persuade MPs to vote against the changes - ask your friends and colleagues to get involved too. To do this you can:

  • Email the Secretary of State for Work & Pensions at the Mencap DLA campaign website here

  • Sign the Mencap petition online here
  • Download Mencap's report 'Don't Limit Mobility' by Mencap and 26 other charities to understand more about the campaign. Pass it onto your friends so they can find out more and supportĀ  the campaign too.

The Camden Society strongly opposes both existing cuts and proposed further cuts to DLA. We encourage everyone with a disability and their supporters, carers, families and friends to take part in the campaign aginst cutting the mobility part of DLA.

If you need support to understand what is being planned or to take part, please come to our Holmes Road office where we will help you. Call 020 7485 8177 for more information.
