Catering & Hospitality Apprenticeships

Launch your career in catering

If you have a disability and would like to work in restaurants, hotels or other food and service businesses, our London-based social enterprise cafes can give you all the training, qualifications and experience you need to get a job. On our catering & hospitality training programmes you will learn how to:

  • Prepare food
  • Cook a range of meals and snacks
  • Serve customers
  • Prepare for events and parties
  • Keep the cafe looking great

A typical training programme lasts for two years and we can work with you to design a programme that's right for you. You may need more or less time than this to complete all the parts of the training programme, so you can choose how many days a week you'd like to train. Whatever you need, we can work around you.

Get qualified to work

You will get a programme that helps you to get the skills you need to start work. You will be able to get qualifications, practical experience and as much support as you need. You'll get your own keyworker and will use our Qualified to Work pack. This is a system that will show you how well you are learning. Our cafe training programmes will help you to get qualifications that employers like to see:

  • NVQ 1&2 Food Preparation & Cookery
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Health & Safety at Work Certificate

You will also be able to take other short courses including:

  • Manual handling
  • Fire safety
  • Basic First Aid

Learning about work life

You will also learn important skills for work. This includes how to work in a team, how to deal with customers and how to present yourself at work. You will make new relationships with other people at the cafe and will learn about the responsibilities you will have if you decide to get a paid job after your training.

Tracking your progress

All the way through your training, we will track your progress using our Qualified to Work pack and will help you plan what you want to do next. Towards the end of your training you will get support from a Camden Society Employment Advisor to think about getting a job or moving on to further training.

Train at our Employment & Learning Centre

All of our cafe training programmes are linked to our Employment & Learning Centre in Kentish Town. Here, you will get day release to join other people to complete your training courses.

All our courses are flexible and you will be able train using multi-media facilities and accessible learning materials. You can even have your own learning buddy if you need support during training days.
