Public Collections: Kentish Town

Fundraising for The Great Escape 2019

Public fundraising collections raise - over £150 at Iceland, Kentish Town and Kentish Town West Station

Recently four of the people we support - Frances, Mohammed, Jon and Samshu - along with our Fundraising Assistant Judith took part in fundraising collections at Iceland supermarket in Kentish Town, Kentish Town tube station and Kentish Town West Overground Station. We were delighted to raise over £171.89 in total towards The Great Escape 2019, our activities holiday for adults with a learning disability.

A big thank you to George the manger at Iceland who agreed to let us do the collection and Jamie his assistant who was there on the day. Also to the Station Managers at Kentish Town and Kentish Town West Station who was very welcoming and accommodating to our group.

We found that the public had a lot of empathy for The Camden Society, many of them already being aware of us through our local social enterprise Flapjacks, and plenty stopped for a chat and wished us luck.

Local people were really supportive of The Great Escape and our belief that everybody deserves a holiday, and they enjoyed being able to talk to the people who will be going on the trip themselves..

Judith said: “We all had a fun day on both occasions and really appreciated the warmth shown to us by the members of the public that we encountered.”

Frances, Mohammed, Jon and Samshu are looking forward to being able to fundraise again in the future.

The Great Escape is an activities holiday for adults with a learning disability. It allows people to escape the city and meet new friends. This is vital as one third of the people we support have not has a holiday in five years.

We’re making steady progress towards our fundraising target for The Great Escape 2019, but we need your help! Please consider making a donation today so that we can offer more people with a learning disability a space on the holiday.
